Vacation - Day 2

Well, it's Tuesday and we checked out the beach this morning. Jayden had a great time! He liked the water as long as he was standing up, but as soon as he sat down and the waves came, he got freaked out.

He had fun in the sand, and didn't get too much in his mouth.

There were also these cool puddles of water that Jayden had a wonderful time in.

I had a great time boogie boarding!

And tonight, Jayden made his first Build-a-Bear, Myrtle the Turtle.

Vacation - Day 1 - The Unit

Amy and I were talking on our way to the beach about our timeshare unit, the Plantation Resort at Surfside Beach, SC. My parents gave us a week of their timeshare to transfer wherever we wanted. But when we were looking months ago, there were no units larger than a hotel-style unit. So, that's what we reserved. We talked about how difficult it would be to have Jayden in one room with us. We wouldn't be able to stay up with the lights on watching tv, playing games, or scrapbooking.

But, when we got to the check-in counter, I asked if there were any available units larger than a hotel room. The nice lady checked for me and found a 2-bedroom unit with a full kitchen! So, I said BOOK IT! We had to pay an extra $100 for the week, but it will be well worth it! We will be able to go to the grocery store and save money on being able to have some meals here instead of eating out the entire week.
Here's the thing though...we were actually booked in one resort and we ended up in its sister resort. I'm sure you're thinking "big deal!" Right, but the thing is my mom had already stayed in the resort that we are now staying in and there are rules with the timeshare that you're not allowed to transfer a week into the same resort more than once. So, we got blessed!

Another thing we talked about on the way was some of the reviews that I had read about the resort. I read a bunch of reviews. About half of them were excellent reviews and the other half were horrible! People were talking about nasty carpet and cock roaches. So, I was a bit concerned to see what it was actually going to be like. But, much to my excitement, it was beautiful! Check out some pictures...

Vacation - Day 1 - Lunch

I am going to be blogging/journaling our vacation to Myrtle Beach this week.

We got out the door around 10:30 this morning. We made a couple of stops in Cornelius. Then, as we're driving down 77, Amy had a brilliant idea! She said, we should go to the penguin place for lunch.

We have been enjoying watching the Food Network this summer since all of our regular shows that we watch are all re-runs right now. But we love Duff and the Ace of Cakes, Robert and Dinner Impossible, the awesome cake challenges, and Iron Chef America! And then, one of the other shows we like is called "Diners, Drive-ins, & Dives". One day, we were watching Guy and he visited a drive-in in Charlotte! It was called the "Penguin Drive-in".

Guy showed us their awesome Fried Pickles and Ginormous Burgers! So, of course we had to look on my awesome GPs and find it. Would you believe it was right on our way out of town?!

Oh man! Those pickles and burgers were the best ever!

United States Redneck Special Forces

There is a news bulletin floating around about the pentagon forming a new 500-man elite fighting unit called the United States Redneck Special Forces:

These North Carolina boys, Bubba, Hoss, Cooter, Boo, and good 'ole Cletus will be dropped into Iraq using commercial airlines and have been given only the following facts about terrorists:
  1. The season opened today.
  2. There is no limit.
  3. They taste like chicken.
  4. They don't like beer, pickups, country music or Jesus.
  5. They are DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE for the death of Dale Earnhardt.

The Pentagon expects the problem in Iraq to be over by the end of the week.

Pro-active Cable Service?!

Can you believe this?! I just had some pro-active cable service! A guy from Time Warner Cable just called and said, "Sir, we have noticed in our logs that your cable internet service has been lagging and dropping a little bit. I am on my over to check that out for you." Can you believe it?! No Way! I was flabbergasted on the phone.
BUT, here was the problem, Amy is watching a couple kids at home and they were both sleeping in the room that the cable modem was in. So, I had to ask him to come back later. And he agreed! He said he would go to another place first and then come to our house.
He came later and we found out that the problem was because I moved my cable modem from one room to another. Who knew that was a problem? Not me.
Anyhow, while they were here, they not only fixed the problem and gave me super fast internet back, but they also re-wired all of the connections on the ends of my cables outside and gave me new splitters in the box. And NO COST to me!
Go Time Warner! I've never had service like that with any other service- cable or otherwise.
How cool would it be if every service we had did that? Like if you got a phone call that said, "I'm sorry to bother you sir, but it seems like your car is starting to drive rough. Could we please come out and look at that for FREE?!"

Fun with websites and ministry

Last night and today, I have had the privilege of working on a website for one of my life mentors. What a great opportunity to be able to give back to someone who has poured so much into my life and made such a great impact on me.

It is interesting to know how many lives I am able to touch now with this use of the internet and knowledge of designing websites. I have the privilege of helping two ministries put together their websites so that they can communicate with the people who need to hear what they are up to, who want to be able to give to their ministry, who can get resources for their ministry, and communicate back to the ministry. So by my partnership with them, I am able to help them to make those connections.

2 Questions for my readers:
- Who has made a positive impact your life?
- How are you impacting the lives of others?
